Victory – Is There a Cure for Autoimmune Disease? [10Oct10]

via @reidkimball
Two months after I first saw Isabel and discovered and treated the underlying causes of her inflammation–after, as she says she, “stopped eating gluten, dairy, and sugar and took some supplements” she was symptom free. In less than a year, she was completely healthy, her blood tests were normal, and she was off all her medication.
Nothing Proven – Causes of inflammatory bowel disease [23Sep10]
Sep 24th
Inflammatory bowel disease abbreviated as IBD are various ailments that cause small intestines and colon inflammation. Ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s diseases are the two main types although there are other forms like:
• Behcet’s syndrome
• Collagenous colitis
• Diversion colitis
• Indeterminate colitis
• Ischaemic colitis
• Lymphocytic colitis
IBD is considered an idiopathic disease. This means that there are no exact clinically proven causes but there are factors that lead to or accelerate inflammatory bowel disease.
Immune system response: In this case the body defense mechanism may be triggered by several factors leading to white blood cells attacking the intestinal tissue. An example would be the white blood cells responding to protein ‘antigens’ from milk after it has been consumed.
Genes: It is believed that inflammatory bowel disease can be passed through genes. If a senior family member had IBD, there is a chance that it is passed down to the offspring. Recent studies show that the NOD2 gene is tied to Crohn’s disease
She is also quoted saying that, IBD as well as several other autoimmune diseases are more profound in the west compared to developing and 3rd world states. She continues to say that the diet and fascination with antibacterial disinfectants and cleanliness in western countries has become too much. She suggests that kids need exposure to bacteria as they grow up so as they can naturally build their immune system.
